Good afternoon,
I am writing to update you on earlier communications about one resident who tested positive for Covid-19. This resident was transferred to RJH on Monday morning and is reported to be doing well.
As well, we have been notified that a staff member has tested positive because of their close contact exposure to the resident. This staff member worked in Burdett House and Humboldt House. There is currently no evidence of high-risk transmission to other residents or staff.
This afternoon, Island Health will remove Mount St. Mary Hospital from enhanced surveillance and will declare an outbreak in Burdett House and Humboldt House. All residents in these two Houses are on isolation and must remain in their rooms until at least May 3rd. Residents in Humboldt House will be swabbed on April 27th with results expected the following day. It is important for residents to be swabbed on this date unless they are asymptomatic.
Essential visiting in all Houses at Mount St. Mary will continue including those in outbreak.
Social visiting for the other 14 Houses will be limited to visits downstairs. Given the capacity of our visiting areas, social visits are limited to one adult visitor during this time. In addition, social visits in resident rooms will be suspended as will social outings. Residents who have been leaving the site independently will not be permitted to until further notice.
Please do not contact the RNs regarding questions about visiting as they are not able to change or reschedule visits. A notice with updates about specifics around social visits will be sent out later this evening.
Island Health will be releasing a bulletin with this information to the public later this afternoon.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we navigate this process, which may result in last minute changes and updates. We know changes to schedules and plans are disappointing for everyone. As we receive new information, we make decisions with compassion and caring to ensure we are doing everything we can to protect our residents, our staff, and you and your families. We will continue to keep you updated as we receive new information.
We are pleased to let you know Island Health has scheduled Mount St. Mary Hospital residents to receive their second vaccination on Monday, April 26th. There will be no visits, except essential visits on the 26th.
Kind regards,
Sara
