Dear Residents, Families, and Visitors,
The COVID – 19 outbreak is declared over by our Medical Health Officer and Island Health as of midnight, May 3rd. The staff who provide compassionate care and services to individuals living at Mount St. Mary excelled in following our COVID – 19 Response Plan and in containing the outbreak. The COVID – 19 positive cases remained with one resident and one staff member. Sadly, our resident passed away in acute care from COVID – 19 related complications. Our staff member remains well.
Island Health states “The team at Mount St. Mary is to be commended for their exceptional work ensuring the outbreak did not spread further and continuing to provide high-quality care under challenging circumstances.”
Our housekeeping team is now undertaking extensive cleaning in all resident rooms and the common areas of the two outbreak Houses. This is expected to be completed by end of day Wednesday.
Village Square/Chapel/Blondin Green Social Visits for Burdett and Humboldt Houses resume today including recurring visits previously booked through to May 31st.
As we have previously shared, social room visits and social outings will resume May 17th. Given our experience with a resident acquiring a community transmission infection, we stress again the importance of mask-wearing, hand hygiene, and physical distancing on outings.
We know that Mother’s Day is this Sunday, May 9th and we are sorry we cannot support resident outings on this important day. We are accepting flowers, cards and Mother’s Day gifts, and hope you will celebrate the day this week and next.
We remain grateful for your support and patience as we follow our precautionary measures in keeping our residents and our staff safe.
