Welcome to the Mount St. Mary well wishes page. This form allows you to send a message to a loved one currently in our care. Emails are checked every weekday and hand-delivered by staff to residents/clients in the afternoon. Messages received after 1 p.m., on weekends, or statutory holidays will be delivered the next business day. Please note that this tool is only for well wishes. Any other type of communication or messages (such as emails conducting personal business, containing questionable content, or solicitations) will not be delivered and will be deleted from the system.

    Director, Resident Care – Temporary
    Job Summary Responsible for the human, material, and financial resources and programs to ensure delivery of safe, quality homelife care for residents that is consistent with the Hospital’s mission, values, philosophy, goals, statutory requirements and professional standards of practice. Accountable and responsible for resident safety through the Resident Care Team. Promotes mission and values integration and collaboration among the Resident Care Team. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, participates in planning strategic direction and decision-making regarding hospital operations. Major Responsibilities 1. Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates Resident Care Services including nursing, social work, clinical nutrition, occupational therapy, activities and resident records. 2. Ensures that care standards, productivity levels, performance indicators, safety standards and policies and procedures for resident care meet current professional, legal and organizational standards and that the Hospital’s mission and values are integrated into all systems and programs. 3. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, participates in the development of Hospital strategic plans, goals and objectives, policies, and procedures, management information systems, employer bargaining demands, essential service plans, and grievance resolution. 4. Provides leadership in the planning and management of assigned units, programs and services; ensures consistency with the strategic plan, established policies, procedures and budgets; formulates and recommends annual department goals and objectives. 5. Leads resident care staff in accordance with the Hospital’s mission and values, professional standards, performance expectations and current legislated/contractual obligations; promotes and/or provides for cooperative working relationships, labour relations, and staff mentoring and development in a continuous learning environment. 6. In collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team, participates in establishing fiscal priorities and allocation of resources; coordinates preparation and oversees the annual operating budget and capital equipment requests for areas of responsibility; monitors expenditures within established budgets; identifies efficiencies and promotes optimal use of resources, making recommendations on current and future program and service adjustments. 7. Provides leadership to the interdisciplinary Resident Care Team and fosters mission integration and cooperative working relationships to promote collaboration in the development of clinical protocols, quality improvement activities, and communication systems. 8. Liaises with pharmacist to meet nursing/pharmacy standards and with the Medical Coordinator related to medical and nursingprotocols. 9. Coordinates continuous quality improvement initiatives and activities that are effective and integrated into day-to-day resident care service delivery. Ensures that appropriate quality of care and resident safety measures, including performance standards and indicators are in place and compatible with industry and Accreditation standards. Reports outcomes of clinical quality improvement activities to the Quality Management Team as scheduled. 10. Provides leadership in developing, implementing and monitoring resident safety plans; leads resident safety improvement activities and ensures resident safety activities are implemented to promote staff learning. 11. Provides overall leadership to the Hospital’s infection prevention and control program in collaboration with the Medical Director and the Clinical ResourceNurse. 12. Establishes monitoring and reporting systems to identify and follow-up on areas of concern in Resident Care Services; acts as an advocate for residents, ensuring that incidents and complaints regarding Resident Care Services are investigated, corrective and follow-up action taken and disclosure is provided in accordance with Hospital policy. 13. Maintains broad external contact at a senior level for the purpose of enhancing the delivery of Resident Care Services for the organization and collaborating on initiatives to form effective health service partnerships with other community agencies/programs. 14. Serves as a member of hospital committees such as Infection Prevention & Control, Ethics, Occupational Health & Safety, Medical Advisory Committee, Medical Quality Improvement Committee, Mission Team and Union/Management. 15. Ensures that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is informed of and aware of significant events and activities in the areas of responsibility. Provides regular reports to CEO on all aspects of the department’s operation. 16. Assumes Administrator-On-Call duties as per roster; in the absence of the CEO, and as assigned, assumes role of Acting CEO as required. 17. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualitification
    • Graduation from a recognized program for Registered Nurses or Registered Psychiatric Nurses. Current practicing registration with the BCCNM.
    • 5 years relevant experience in leadership in long term care in British Columbia
    • Demonstrated leadership ability in long term care with comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices and techniques as they relate to long term care.
    • Post RN/RPN education in Gerontology and Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) an asset. Master’s degree an asset.
    • Maturity and good physical and mental health, empathy, patience and tact. Promotes philosophy that first consideration is given to the needs of the residents.
    • Seeks out opportunities to maintain competency and continued learning.

As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the LPN maintains an environment of resident and family-centred care by enabling resident choice, individualized care, and resident and family involvement in care decisions. The LPN practices in accordance with the competency guidelines and full scope of practice within the Standards of Practice as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, and according to Mount St. Mary Hospital policies, standards and protocols.
